Microcrystalline Wax is a refined synthetic wax derived from the heavy distillates of petroleum fractionation.
Compared to common paraffin wax, it has a finer and denser crystal structure (hence the name "microcrystalline"), which gives it a unique set of physical properties:
High flexibility and ductility
High melting point (with a broad range, typically between 60–95°C)
Strong adhesion
Increased hardness while preventing brittleness
Better opacity (enhances wax opacity)
Improved oil-binding capacity, reducing the seeping of essential oils/fragrances
Role of Microcrystalline Wax in Container Candle Making:
Increases hardness and enhances structure
Improves surface smoothness and prevents frosting
Enhances thermal properties (melting and softening points)
Boosts fragrance throw
Improves adhesion and prevents shrinkage
