Product Description:Automotive surface coating scratch tester
Paint Surface Scratch Tester: Complies with ISO 1518, BS 3900,
ASTM D 5178 and ASTM D 2197 standards. Scratch tester can test the scratch resistance of product surface coating, such as coil paint, tin can ink, metal paint, automotive surface coating, etc. The scratch tester is used to evaluate the scratch resistance of single or composite coatings on color coated panels. The scratch resistance of a coating is evaluated by the negative weight of a spherical steel needle under a certain weight of the coating or a spherical steel needle without scratching the coating. The scratching instrument is tested by using a hemispherical scratching needle with a diameter of 1mm, slowly touching the surface under test and scratching a length of about 10cm. Depending on the purpose of the test and the loaded load, different degrees of penetration are observed, ranging from surface marks to complete penetration. The motor drives the sample into gentle contact with the scratching needle, which strokes across the sample and stops automatically when it reaches the end point. The contact of the paddle with the metal substrate is identified by a voltmeter, which indicates the passage of current when the sample coating under test is scratched.

This instrument can be used to evaluate the physical properties of coating film strength, hardness and adhesion in a comprehensive manner, so the purpose of this instrument is to characterize the size of coating film strength, hardness and adhesion by the size of the penetration resistance of the sample coating film when it is scratched by a scratching needle.
