Product Description:
RP Graphite Electrodes for Electric Arc Furnace Steel Production
Regular Power Graphite Electrode (RP
electrode) is a commonly used conductive material in industrial applications such as electric arc furnace steelmaking and submerged arc furnace. Its conductivity and high temperature resistance are between high power (HP) and ultra-high power (UHP) electrodes. The allowable current density of RP Graphite Electrode is less than 17 A/cm 2. The quality of the graphite electrode determines the yield and cost of steelmaking in the electric arc furnace.
RP Graphite Electrode characteristics
Current load capacity: Suitable for medium current densities (usually below 20 A/cm ²), lower than high-power electrodes, but able to meet general smelting needs. RP graphite electrode products are widely used in medium-power electric arc furnaces and other industrial applications.
Physical performance:
Flexural strength: 10-15 MPa (moderate mechanical strength). Bulk density: 1.55-1.65 g/cm ³ (low density, high porosity).
Thermal shock resistance: superior to high-power electrodes, but with a higher coefficient of thermal expansion.
As a professional RP graphite electrode supplier, manufacturers can also provide uhp/hp/rp graphite electrodes according to different furnace requirements.
Production process
Raw materials: mainly composed of petroleum coke or asphalt coke, with coal tar pitch as the binder.
Key steps:
1. Calcination: The raw materials are calcined at 1200-1300 ℃ to remove volatile components.
2. Pinching: Mix with asphalt to form a malleable paste.
3. Molding: Forming by extrusion or compression molding, suitable for producing small graphite electrode sizes and large-diameter electrodes.
4. Baking: Carbonize at 1000-1200 ℃ to form a preliminary graphite structure.
5. Graphitization: Treatment at high temperatures of 2500-3000 ℃ to enhance conductivity and purity.
Applications of RP Graphite Electrode
Electric arc furnace steelmaking: used for smelting ordinary steel grades (such as construction steel).
Industrial silicon/yellow phosphorus production: conductive electrodes in mineral thermal furnaces.
Calcium carbide production: producing conductive media for calcium carbide (calcium carbide).
Other: Used for certain electrolysis or electric heating equipment.
Common specifications include 400mm, 200mm, 500mm, 350mm, 450mm RP graphite electrode, which can meet different industrial furnace requirements.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantage:
Lower cost compared to HP/UHP electrodes.
The production process is relatively simple and suitable for small and medium-sized smelting needs.
Disadvantages:
The current carrying capacity is limited and not suitable for high-intensity smelting.
Short service life (due to rapid oxidation and mechanical wear).
