The Air-shield Dam combines the advantages of both rubber dams and steel gates. Its main structure consists of a shield plate, an inflatable air bag, embedded anchor bolts, rubber water stops, and a control system. The shield plate is made of carbon steel or stainless steel, while the air bag is made of EPDM polymer material reinforced with fabric skeleton, offering excellent strength and weather resistance. The control system inflates the air bag, which supports the shield plate as it rises to retain water. When water discharge, sediment removal, or debris clearing is required, the compressed air is released from the bag, allowing the shield plate to collapse quickly. Since the air bag rests beneath the shield plate, it is well protected from damage caused by sand, gravel, or ice in the river channel.
